Janet Mellor Architect Floor Plan

Janet Mellor Architect is a full-service architect offering residential architecture, interior and custom cabinetry design, commercial and downtown revitalization, and historic preservation. With a strong emphasis on "green" and sustainable practices and materials, her work seeks to integrate gently into the site and the environment.

Janet Mellor has traveled and studied extensively in Europe and there developed a sensitivity to historic architecture and an appreciation of the integration of a modern aesthetic into the historic context. Much of her work has taken place in the Adirondacks of NY, where respectful rehabilitation of and additions to great camps is prevalent. Her interest in modern design manifests most frequently in interiors and cabinetry using contemporary, recycled, and sustainable materials. Training in Historic Preservation prepared her for work with historic buildings both alone and in a downtown setting.

Janet Mellor received a Master of Architecture from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, is a Registered Architect in NY State, and a Certified Woman-Owned Business Enterprise.

Janet Mellor Architect has worked on National Register listed building projects in compliance with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards and has had training in historic preservation techniques and methodologies. Work has included renovations to residences both old and new as well as downtown revitalization. While some clients may prefer a traditional aesthetic, others choose to explore ways that contemporary architectural interventions can contrast compatibly with existing historic materials and imagery. Often the need to preserve the historic and architectural character of the original artifact can be complemented by the obvious difference between what is historic and what is clearly of the 21st century.
